After 5 years of hard work and study at the University of Bristol’s Dental School, all the students and their families gathered for the final time on 18th July 2008 for our Degree Congregation.
The day started bright and early in order to reach Bristol in time to collect my gown. After a few photo opportunities around the University grounds, we went for the official photographs at 9am. All the students and their families, some of whom had travelled all the way from Far East, Middle East, Africa and Europe to witness this ceremony, had a chance to mingle before we entered the Great Hall at 10:30am. This was followed by a very formal procession to mark the beginning of the ceremony.
The process of having my degree conferred to me by the Pro Vice-Chancellor was a nerve wracking experience, yet a very proud moment for my parents and I! But only one thought was going through my mind – ‘don’t fall over the stairs and embarrass yourself!’ The ceremony was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
After a few photos outside whilst the weather was still dry, we all made our way to the Dental School for a grand tour, lunch and finally a prize giving ceremony. The long day ended late in the evening when we arrived back home, very tired!
